The WHY is not as important as the WHAT

In becoming Diet Free I noticed a pattern of nibbling while cleaning up after a meal. I tried to identify a past event or circumstance that led to this behavior. However, asking the “Why” question did not help.  I turned to the “What” question.  “What am I thinking and/or feeling when I eat while clearing up the dishes?” This proved to be a much more fruitful question.

Don’t get stuck in the small stuff

I had a hankering for crisp, cool, fresh cucumbers. I wanted to make a special dish for dinner so I went up to our local supermarket and bought six cucumbers in addition to the usual produce items. When I returned home, I combed through all the shopping bags– no cucumbers!  I had selected very fresh bok choy to use as a side dish but it did not make it home with me either. I faced three choices. Drive back to the store and purchase these items again. Get annoyed with the checker/bagger for not putting my bag of produce in my cart and spend the rest of the day feeling upset. Or, simply change my thinking and let it go! Because I wanted peace, I chose the latter option.

Stress? What Stress?

As you read this blog is there any stress right now, exactly in this moment? Once you finish reading, you may remember a stressful past event or a future stress. However, right now as you focus your attention reading these words, aren’t you stress free? What would being stress free for an hour or a day feel like? How can you achieve more of these stress-free moments?

Simple, Easy, Just do it!

Okay… this is what drives me crazy. Recently a non-diet expert wrote this gem, “Plan to eat a few pieces of your favorite treat, savor every sweet bite, and banish any thought that it’s bad. Then toss out the leftovers, and move on.”

If this is simple for you and you can “just get over it,” then congratulations! ….Simplistic advice of this kind ignores the fact that we are multifaceted beings encompassing body, mind, spirit and emotions. Making true lifestyle change takes a holistic approach.
